How do American women really feel about their men?
It turns out temper is the number one thing women want to change about their guys, and most of the women surveyed feel a mid-life crisis is just an excuse to behave badly.
A telephone survey released by 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair gets the scoop from nearly 1200 women. Most of the women surveyed feel education trumps hard work and good manners as he matures.
Mid-Life Crisis or Act
On the mid-life crisis question – often portrayed as the clichéd purchase of a sexy sports car or getting a young girlfriend – 60 percent of the women surveyed say it is all an act.
I spoke to some people on the streets of New York to see if they agreed.
“I think it’s an excuse to behave badly, because we all want to get older and go have fun,” said Pam Jordan of Dallas.
“I think it’s an excuse to behave badly, definitely,” agreed Kurt Lee of Grantsberg, Wisconsin. “They buy a lot of toys and do a lot of things. But, yes they’re looking for an excuse.”
A different view from the other side of world, “It’s not a myth it’s real. Thank you. Hormonally balanced; driven by the hormones, and lack of, loss of youth,” said Miriam Straight of Melbourne, Australia. Her husband Serge piped in with a laugh, ” Ay, ay, ay! I haven’t lost my youth!”
Temper, Temper
Given the choice of changing a man’s friends, mother, sense of humor, physique or hygiene, nearly 30% of women in a relationship said they would change their partner’s temper.
“Temper is not what I’ve got in mind: his fear of shopping. Ha, ha, ha,” said Miriam Straight.
“I think temper is a negative side in men, but I have a very nice husband. He’s very nice. He’s very calm, so I can’t say his temper is bad,” added Lena Atas from Halmstad, Sweden.
Temper is not a problem for my husband. If I were to make a change. I don’t know. He’s pretty perfect,” said Jordan.
While the 60 minutes/Vanity Fair survey shows American women said there’s no such thing as a perfect man, there are some lucky men whose wives disagree.
